Shades of '76 is a specialty paint created with the serious painter and the historic preservation market in mind. When it was introduced 12 years ago, our "Shades" color palette was researched for color accuracy, using colors that were prominent in Philadelphia, Boston, and other towns that were sprouting up during the Colonial time period. The colors that were chosen are a combination of deep, rich colors and muted shades of natural earth pigments. If used by themselves, or if used in combination with each other, these colors allow our customers to add a unique touch to many of their home projects. Shades of '76 comes in 18 colors (and black) in an oil-base satin finish. We also offer 18 colors (and black) in an acrylic latex-based satin finish. These products are excellent for interior and exterior use. The color names are listed on our order page. You may obtain a free color card by clicking here. If you have ever experienced poor hiding with deep-colored paints, there is a reason for this shortcoming. Most paint companies no longer manufacture ready-mixed colors. They make "tint bases" that are tinted to color at your local paint store. The lighter, pastel colors are easily matched by this method. The darker, more brilliant colors are much harder to fabricate. Since all of the Shades of '76 colors are factory-made, we can assure you that our paint is of the highest quality.
